It’s pretty easy for me to ramble on about my love for engagement sessions because I think they could easily be one of my favorite milestones to photograph. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE wedding days- but there is something special about these sessions that always sticks with me. Something that I mention frequently in all of my guides, my emails and my posts is how important it is for me to get to know my couples. Engagement sessions really allow me to see it all first hand, for you guys to become comfortable in front of the camera, to get an idea of how I shoot and how I work. On top of all of that, you get a ton of gorgeous photos (isn’t that enough in itself?)
Let’s get right a run down of how and engagement session works:
A location of your choice! Maybe it’s where you got engaged, where you met or just a place that you two love. Need help picking a spot? Let’s talk and find the perfect place to make it happen!
FAQ: Can we go to multiple locations?
Reach out and let’s chat! I generally try to suggest a location that has many options for us to cut out spending time traveling from one spot to another. If the locations are near by, yes! I base my sessions around sunset time so is a big factor in the start time!
FAQ: Can we shoot off of Long Island?
Yes! I’d love to! Travel fees will apply, but please get in touch and we can figure something out! I’d love to explore a new place with you guys. I’ve done sessions Upstate NY, Asheville NC and Boston to just name a few!
I am booking sessions Monday-Thursday’s during wedding season. Right before the sun goes down is the best light (sunrise works too if you’re a morning person!) Depending on the time of year can determine an exact time!
Sessions are always about 1hr long, 1.5 max.
FAQ: What color photographs the best? What looks best on camera?
To be honest, anything can be photographed well. You want to wear what you feel the best in! What makes you feel the most beautiful? Don’t go crazy trying to match your outfits so perfectly; compliment don’t be matchy-matchy. You want your engagement photos to reflect your personalities and your relationship. If this means jeans and a t-shirt- go for it! I advise my clients not to wear graphic tees, or articles with a big logo on them. These can be distracting, and end up being the focal point of your images. We want all of the focus to be on you!
FAQ: How many outfit changes are allowed? Do I need more than one?
I would suggest two being the max. As I base my sessions around lighting so this will cut into your shooting time. Two outfits are perfect! This allows you to do half the session in one look and wear the other for the rest.
Don’t want to change? That’s totally fine! A lot of couples stay in one outfit the whole session. Sometimes bringing something as a simple as a scarf or blanket can bring a nice dynamic to the shoot!
