A Surprise Pregnancy Announcement

 

Kelly + Kris are one of those couples you just know are incredibly in love, so when Kelly emailed me to ask if I’d be interested in helping her surprise Kris with some super exciting pregnancy news, I was so elated and said yes immediately! I honestly love when past brides of mine involve me in HUGE moments like this one, and since we already have a comfortability with each other, it makes the photos that much more amazing!

Since we didn’t want Kris to suspect a single thing, I made a fake announcement that I was looking for couples to model for me for some holiday cards. Of course, I picked Kelly + Kris (super sly, I know!). The morning of the shoot, I met Kelly and she gave me the positive test to put in a special box I brought as a “present” for the two of them for modeling for me. I added a super sweet, hand-drawn “you’re going to be a dad!” announcement inside, too! I love adding personal touches for my clients!

Later, the two of them met me at Santa’s Christmas Tree Farm in Cutchogue, and we snapped a few Christmasy photos before the reveal! It was SO frigid and windy, but Kelly + Kris were such troopers! I tried to design the day to be fully in my control so that the big moment would be set up perfectly, and it worked out amazingly! I had explained to both Kelly + Kris that I had a vision for the photo with the present box, so they turned and faced each other without so much as a question. As nonchalantly as possible (I was bursting with excitement!!!!), I asked Kris if he could take the top of the present off, and as he started to lift it, I captured the sweetest moments of the two of them reading the note and seeing the test! It seriously could not have been more amazing!

After I snapped some photos, I stepped away and gave them a few minutes to revel in the incredible moment that Kelly had created. SO, so beautiful. As a photographer, I don’t want to be too intrusive, so I try to give my couples a little breathing room for big surprises like this. It makes the photos that much more emotional, I think!

I’m so excited to finally be able to share these beautiful captures of Kelly + Kris and to publicly wish them a lifetime of love and happiness! I can’t wait to see this little babe!
