A Snowy Winter Wonderland Affair
Each and every wedding I shoot, I find myself completely enamored with every detail, every smile, and every special moment. It’s one of the perks of being a professional third wheel – I see {and capture!) everything! Miki and John’s gorgeous December wedding took me through the rollercoaster that is every wedding day – from a forecast of rain to a snowy surprise – and as I watched from behind my lens, I realized that weddings like this one are the reason I get up each and every day, excited about what I do. I mean, with couples like this, who could blame me?
I initially had the pleasure of capturing Miki and John’s engagement session not only exploring John’s family farms but also on a gorgeous private beach where they first kissed, too! Sentimental locations can be SO key when choosing a spot to be photographed – it usually brings sweet smiles, a flood of memories, and, thus, a beautiful finished product! Miki and John absolutely glowed when they looked into each others eyes and hearing John boast to perfect strangers that he had kissed Miki right there, on that very beach, could not have been more adorable. They also told me the story of a contract they’d concocted when they were in high school – promising each other that, if they weren’t married by 30, they’d tie the knot. Clearly, it was meant to be, because long before they turned 30, they had already fallen in love. And I am so happy about that, because these two couldn’t possibly be more perfect for each other.
In the week leading up to their wedding day, Miki and John worried about a forecast of rain, but it didn’t deter Miki, John, or me! With umbrellas in tow (just in case!) and a positive attitude, we braced ourselves for whatever Mother Nature would bring us. So, imagine our surprise when we woke up the morning of to see the sugary glaze of fresh snow outside our windows! Since John comes from a big farming family, and is a farmer himself, I was sure that both Miki and John would definitely appreciate the incredibly organic feel that snow can bring, and I was right! With Miki’s sparkly shoes swapped for some killer muck boots, and the thrill of just married bliss, her and John floated through the grounds of Giorgio’s and created some incredible magic together against a beautiful North Fork backdrop. Their portraits were playful and natural, and as the light bounced perfectly off the snow, I saw in them a love that far exceeds anything: the love of true best friends.
One thing I absolutely loved was spending some time photographing Miki and John’s rings on the morning of their wedding! A favorite shot in particular was of Miki’s rings on a deer antler. This photo was special because every time Miki would visit the farm she would take her engagement ring off and place in gently on the antler, so as not to lose it. Special memories like this are so incredible to document for me and knowing that the two of them had asked me to incorporate it in anyway I could made it even more perfect. More backstories like this one, please!
Their wedding day was one of my favorites of 2016, and there’s a thousand ways I could tell you why I’m obsessed, so I’m so excited to share some of their stunning photos so you can see for yourself! Miki and John, here’s to a thousand more shared chicken cutlet sandwich tractor rides, turn around boo’s, and twice-fulfilled love contracts. Congratulations!
